Electronic music composition, SOUNDWORKS, London ICA, London, 2012.

by the time was commissioned by the London ICA for SOUNDWORKS, a group exhibition taking its stimulus from themes evoked in Bruce Nauman’s Days, which was presented concurrently in the museum. SOUNDWORKS embraced the ephemeral nature of sound, and presented over 100 commissioned sound works as an online platform and virtual exhibition space.

This composition explores spoken language as a material, a performative gesture, and a form of noise. Through the course of the piece, a voice slowly spells out a repeated phrase, the phrase becomes a natural loop.

Slowly, field recordings and electronics become audible and rise to match the volume of the speaking voice.  The piece considers language and sound as a form of marking and making time, shaping us from moment to moment.
